Seville:
Cultural and City tours

Print information
Visit to the Barrio of Santa Cruz and Surrounding Area

Sevilla is a cross of cultures, a mosaic of far away voices that speak of tiles, gardens, fountains, Virgens, orange blossoms, greens, blues, yellows, life...

Walk through Sevilla is the breathe in culture, and that's why this is one of the best activities that one can do in this city.

Our tour begins in the Plaza de San Francisco, an enchanting plaza that is filled with modern elegance. We will go through the shop filled streets to arrive at the Giralda tower.

Here is where time stops, the Arabic touch makes us contemplate this hybrid minaret culminated by the "victory of Faith". Here we see the largest cathedral in Spain and the third largest of the Christian world. Here is where the Arabic and Christian culture come together.

After seeing two of the most important monuments in Seville we will continue our route through one of the most magical areas in Andalusia: Santa Cruz. Here we will relive the Jewish world through its streets, plazas, and balconies…. In this area we will find the memory of the famous don Juan Tenorio, a legendary universal myth.

After going through the maze of tiny streets and taking a walk through the Murillo Gardens, we will return to the Giralda where our tour ends.

Historians cannot agree about the origin of the name “Triana”, although many relate it to the family of Trajan, the emperor of Rome who was born in Italica near Seville. This area has so much personality that for a long time it was considered another city. In fact, people still talk about “Seville and Triana” as if they are two different places.

Our visit to Triana starts at the Isabel II bridge, commonly known as the Triana bridge. This bridge is special because it is one of the few structures in Seville constructed entirely of iron. From there we can contemplate the Guadalquivir River.

On the other side of the river we enter this quarter, the birthplace of many bullfighters, flamenco artists, and many unique and simple people. Triana is characterized by its beautiful ceramics of many colors and luminous shapes. The Altozano plaza is the neurological center where many well-known streets converge.

We will continue down one of these famous streets, which goes alongside the river. The street “Betis” (the name that the Romans gave the Guadalquivir river) is a mosaic of bright colours as seen from the shore of Seville. It is a picturesque street where the bars call the passerby to come in and take a rest, to have a beer and look at the marvellous view.

After this well-deserved rest, we will go down Pureza street to visit the church of the favourite Virgen of the Triana people, called the Esperanza de Triana, a dark skinned and sad but defiant woman.

We will continue down Betis street until reaching the Plaza de Cuba, and we will cross the San Telmo bridge to get a nice look at the Torre de Oro (The Golden Tower). This tower is a sister to the Giralda, and both have seen many centuries of the history of Seville.

To end the tour we will visit one of the most famous bullrings in the world: The Royal Maestranza. This 18th century plaza has seen the best bullfighters play and is still a mecca for many bullfight lovers.
