Cine-Club

This is included within the program of cultural activities that Linc offers to our students of Spanish for free.

One week every month (Tuesdays and Thursdays) we enjoy the best films made in Spain and Latin America, with subtitles.

The films are preceded by a presentation made by a teacher in which information is provided about some of the technical (director, actors, production date, awards...) and artistic (genre, style, cultural context) aspects of the movie.

After the film, there is a small discussion for those students that are interested, to comment with the teacher on the most relevant aspects, or ask any questions that they may have. Each student is also given a small handout with information (synopsis, biography, etc..) and some vocabulary, comprehension and grammar activities related to the film.

In this film club students can see the most interesting, prize winning and prestigious films of Spain and Latin America, including the most recent hits, as we are always getting new material.All the films are available at the DVD library for free use of our students.Some of the films we play:

Mar Adentro

Synopsis:This movie is a recreation of the last years of Ramón Sampedro´s life, a man who was bedridden for nearly 30 years after suffering an accident in the ocean, leaving him tetraplegic.

From then on, his only wish was to end his life with dignity. Two women appear and light up his life: Julia, a lawyer who wants to defend Ramón, and Rosa, a woman who tries to instill in him the will to live.

Based on a real story, one of someone who brought to the courts of Spain the petition for euthanasia for the first time, this is a moving and vital film, full of tenderness and humor, wonderfully filmed and interpreted, it is a song of beaty, love and liberation of man.

Winner or numerous awards: León de plata (Specially awarded by the jury) in Venice and Copa Volpi for best actor Javier Bardem; European Cinema awards to best director and lead actor; Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, 14 Goya awards in Spain.

El hijo de la novia

Synopsis:Rafael Belvedere is businessman unsatisfied with his life. He is divorced, with a daughter that he doesn´t pay enough attantion to and a girlfriend that feels abandoned. On top of it all, it has been more than a year since he has visited his mother, who is interned in a geriatric hospital with Alzheimer´s. A series of unforeseen events make Rafael reconstruct his life to help his parents fulfill an old dream. Juan José Campanella achieved great international success in this movie. From a simple plot, he elaborates a superb script with well defined characters, a subtle and complex web of human relationships and a very personal, emotional and enlightening sense of humor.

Los amantes del Círculo Polar
